Sharing Knowledge About Residential Plumbing

Hey everyone, I am Tina. I would like to welcome you to my site about plumbing. At my old house, the plumbing for the kitchen sink started to fail. The pipe outside simply disintegrated from old age. As a result, my yard started flooding with water whenever I turned on the sink. After this experience, I decided to learn all I can about residential plumbing problems and repairs. On this site, I will share all of that knowledge with you all. I hope to help everyone better understand the problems they may face with their plumbing and how a professional plumber can help.

Keeping Your Tavern's Urinals in Good Working Order

If you own a bar or tavern, it will become necessary to maintain upkeep of your men's room's urinals often. Since your establishment serves liquid refreshments, the bathroom is most likely utilized a bit more than normal. The urinals are at risk for clogging if you do not take the proper precautionary steps in keeping them cleaned out for customer use. Here are some steps you can take to keep your urinals working so customers do not suffer from downtime due to clogging incidents.

Provide Waste Receptacles in Convenient Locations

If you have waste cans present within your men's room in spots where they are likely to be noticed, this will be helpful in keeping refuse out of your urinals. Since people under the influence of alcohol may not be completely sharp at the time they use the bathroom, they might throw items in the urinal instead of using an appropriate container.

Consider placing a small bin on a hook at the side of each urinal for a quick area to throw away refuse if necessary. If your bar allows smoking, placing an ashtray near the urinal area will also be helpful in keeping cigarette butts out of the drainage area.

Take Time to Clean Urinals at the End of Each Day

If possible, have someone check the bathroom several times during their shift to make sure the urinals are not full with urine or refuse. Each urinal should be cleaned in its entirety after patrons leave the establishment. Put on a pair of rubber gloves and take the time to remove the urinal block or screen so the entire drainage area is easily accessible.

Wipe the interior of each urinal with a disinfectant. Using a disinfectant with odor control will keep the bathroom pleasing to those who use it the next day. This can be applied with a non-abrasive sponge. Be sure to throw the sponge away after the cleaning process so it is not mistakenly used for other cleaning jobs around your establishment. Place a new block or screen at the bottom of the basin in preparation for the next use.

Take Action at the First Sign of Clogging

When a clog is noticed, it will be necessary to remove it quickly so patrons are not inconvenienced with a non-working urinal to relieve themselves. Remove the screen or block in the bottom of the basin and use a plumber's snake to try dislodging any matter that may have become trapped in the piping system. If this is not successful, a call to a plumber should be made immediately. The urinal should be labeled as unusable during this time to avoid excessive liquid problems.

A plumber would disassemble the piping and use an auger to try removing a clog. If this does not work, they may recommend a drain-cleaning procedure. Since urine crystallizes in pipes, clogs are a common occurrence in urinals that are used excessively. This procedure would flush out the crystallized urine in its entirety, leaving the pipes in an almost like-new condition.
